Masayuki

GG0520

A rare find in these days, a shingunto vet pick up that hasn't been messed up.

A prewar gendaito signed, Masayuki Saku, dated 2,600 years from the founding of the empire (660 BC), 1940.  Shinogizukure, iroi mune smallish chu kissaki.  Ububa. slight machiokure to accommodate shingunto koshirae.  Hawatare:  2 shaku 1 sun 7 bu.  (65.76 cm / 25.89").  Motohaba:  3.29 cm.  Sakihaba:  193 cm.  Kasane:  7.07 mm.  Tight itame hada.    Moderately wide gunome, gunome togare midare. Ref.    Nihonto Meikan,   The Oshigata Book of Modern Japanese Swordsmiths, note that the illustrated example is a rare stamped signature.

Absolutely mint shingunto koshirae, with a brown and blue tassel.

The blade is in relatively good polish, with the exception of a small bit of rust in the kissaki, and some very minor chipping on the edge.  Both are easily corrected for small money.

There is only one gendai smith listed in the Nihonto Meikan and one smith in  The Oshigata Book of Modern Japanese Swordsmiths.

$2,700.

Minor chipping.
