A wakizashi, ubu, one mekugiana, signed, Awataguchi Fujiwara Tadatsuna. Hirazukure, iroi mune, slight toriizori. Hawatare: 1 shaku 2 sun 9 bu (39.09 cm / 15.4 inches) Motohaba: 3.17 cm. Kasane: 6.9 mm. Nie deki, gunome choji midare in a notare midare, deep ashiiri, gifu, nado. Tight bright ko-mokume hada packed with fine jinie, chikei, bo-utsure, nado. Excellent horimono, in like new condition. Niju gold foil habaki, shirasaya, NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon kanteisho.
Rated josaku with a sharpness rating of Wazamono.in Nihon Toko Jiten Shinto Hen, by Fujishiro. Valued at 5,500,000 yen in Toko Taikan, by Tokuno. As of 2000, there were 42 juyo Tadatsuna, though without dated pieces differentiating between first and second is impossible from this list.
This is the first generation, the father of Ikanshi Tadatsuna. He worked around Manji (1658-1661) in Osaka. Originally from Banshu. He was a descendent of Awataguchi Kunitsuna. $5,000
