Eagle in Pine Tsuba

A large moku tsuba with a slightly raised and textured mimi, of an intaglio eagle in pine tree with sukashi to show a positive image. The lower trunk and branches are in takabori. Highlights in silver silver on the eagles feet and feathers, and pine, gold on the rock The granular tekotsu are so bright and pronounced, that it is difficult to differentiate between these and silver nunome. This tsuba is an enigma. Robert Haynes' comment was, "I have absolutely no idea where it belongs". Although the school is elusive, the manufacture would be mid-Edo. 8.6 cm x 8.02 cm x 4.6 mm.
