SOLD

A large tsuba in pristine condition attributed to Jakushi.  8.48 cm x 7.91cm 4.8 mm.  NBTHK green papers dated 1976 in the name of Michael Quigley, a renowned collector of Jakushi tsuba.  Jakushi was a resident of Hizen province, whose priest name was Rankei.  He is said to have learned art from naturalized priests (likely Korean or Chinese).  He not only employed foreign designs, but he learned metal working from Komojin (foreigners, red haired men).  He was active in the 17th century and into the first decade of the eighteenth.  He was followed by several generations of the same name.
