A shinshinto wakizashi signed, Izumi no Kami Kanesada. Hirazukure, iroi mune, sakizori. Hawatare: 1 shaku 0 sun 6 bu 5.9 rin (32.3 cm / 12.71") Motohaba: 2.91 cm. Kasane: 5.7 mm. Gunome notare midare, sunagashi, fine hanie, deep ashi, yo, nado. Itame jigane with a faint bo-utsure. Elaborate horimono, of the Kosansei Myoo (imbued with love) bonji in positive relief set in a deep bo-hi. Short futatsubi, and a rendai (lotus stand) on the obverse.
Brown tsuka maki. Shakudo fuchi-kashira signed Tsunenari sakunin, has vines and gilt hexagonal symbols on the fuchi with a circular center of Shakudo with nanako, and a large Gunsari Myoo (ability / south guardians) bonji on the kashira. The menuki are high quality shakudo and gold, prayer papers. The hamadachi tsuba is Hizen work with gold and silver dragon, Ho-o, and foliage. The gilt seppa are in chrysanthemum patterns. The red and black lacquer saya has horn koiguchi and kurikata, and an iron kojiri. The high quality shakudo nanako kozuka has millet is gold, silver, and shakudo. One piece heavy gilt habaki. High quality hand loomed sageo.
A strong piece with serious religious content, in excellent condition. Tsunenari, likely Haynes, H 10874.0, worked in Sendai around 1800. I have not been able to find any references to shinshinto Izumi no Kami Kanesada that comports with this signature. $3,850
