SOLD

An ubu wakizashi signed nagamei, Bichu no Kami Fujiwara Kiyonobu.   Shinogizukure, iroi mune, slight sakizori, chu kissaki.  The sugata is that of Kambun period (1661-1673), although this smith is noted as working slightly later.  Hawatare:  1 shaku 7 sun 3 bu  4 rin (52.55 cm / 20.69").  Motohaba:  3.13 cm.  Sakihaba:  2.25 cm.  Kasane:  6.6 mm.  Nie deki, o-gunome haku midare, saka gunome, tobiyaki, deep ashi iri, nado.  Mokume & masame hada mix,  jinie, chikei.  Unfortunately, the last polish was just buffing the blade to make it shine, so it is very difficult to see any details.  Almost impossible to photograph, but it appears to be a very good wakizashi, deserving of a proper polish.  Mounted in shirasaya, with a wooden habaki as part of the tsuka.

Bichu Kiyonobu is Shinto Seki working around Empo (1673-1681), and is rated chujosaku in Nihon Toko Jiten - Shinto-Hen, Fujishiro.  This is the second generation, Kiyonobu.  Valued at 2,200,000 yen in Toko Taikan by Tokuno.

This deserves a good polish.                                                                                                    $1,500
