Mino Tanto

KK544

A mumei koto tanto with exceptional tosogu.  Hirazukure, irori mune.  Hada and hamon obscured.  What can be seen of the hamon is tall gunome, and gunome with flattened tops.  The fuchi-kashira are shakudo and gold flowers and leaves, on a shakudo base. with extremely fine nanako,   The menuki are triple mokutsuba in shakudo with nanako with gold mimi and seppadai.  One large nodule of same is missing.  The tsuba is sand iron and has tekotsu all over the suface, and pronounced lineal tekotsu on the rim.  The seppa are sold silver with decorative edges.  The kojiri is of fine sand iron. Red and black stippled saya, with pockets for kozuka and kogai with patterned leather .  It is my opinion that tthe blade was swapped out when it was surrendered, since the tosogu are so good, and the blade just holds the koshirae together.

A koshirae well worth restoring/                                                                                                                          $1,700

As per Roobert Haynes:  The tsuba is Ko-Naraa, around 1661, superb metal the in lay should be Goto.  Worth between $700 and $1,200.
