A pre-war gendaito: Echigo no Kami Mitsuoki / Showa Niju Nen Yayoi Kissyoubi (March 1945). Ubu, ububa, shinogizukure Iroi mune, extended chu kissaki. Hawatare: 2 shaku 3 sun 8 bu (72 cm / 28.3").Motohaba: 3.42 cm. Sakihaba: 2.41 cm, Kasane: 6.9 mm. Sori: 1.6 cm. Made in Soshu tradion, nie deki, gunome midare, mune aki, hitsura, ni ji, kinsuji, nado. Itame hada packed with konie. There is utsure. There is an umegane as shown below. In original shirasaya, silver tachi habaki. Good original polish and shirasaya. Listed in Nihonto Meikan with a single squar; Pictured in Shinshinto Taikan, Vol II; Valued at 2,000,000 yen in Toko Taikan. Born in Meiji sanjunana nen (1904). He had a career that spaned pre-war to modern times/ His earliest dated work is Showa ju nen (1935). His latest dated work is Showa yonjuyon (1969).
The umegane reminds me of a description of a Kiyomaro in Meito, by Fujishiro, , 'there is a tateware, but it is to be ignored because the work is so good'. The fact that there is ububa, indicates that the problem was spotted and repaired before or right after the first polish.
This is a flamboyant work, that precludes an easy definition of the hamon. There is so much to see and appreciate.
