Mumei Katana


A mumei shinto Mino katana.   Slight machiokure,, shinogizukure, iroi mune, chu kissaki, pronounced sakizori, one mekugiana.  Hawatare:  2 shaku 0 sun 1 bu 6 rin,  (61.1 cm or 24.055").  Motohaba:  2.88 cm.  Sakihaba:  1.76 cm.  Kasane: 6.87 mm. Low gunome notare in ko-nie deki Itame hada with masame in the shinogiji.  The sword  has seen some abuse, an attempt to sharpen one side left a series of dings as the grinder hopped along for about 13 inches.  The sword is saiba, the  machi was raised to disguise the mizukage,

Mounted in a Chinese red and black stippled  handachi saya, missing koiguchi and kurikata, hand has an area whittled away.  The brown tsukamaki is in like new condition.  Stamped flower menuki.  gold foliage on the fuchi, the kashira is plain copper.  The tsuba needing some TLC, missing the soft metal inlay of the moon, is signed Nagachika or Eizui.  Likely out of Hamano Nara school.   This is a martial arts sword or a decorator, not some for a collector.  $1,500
