Mumei Katana

An ubu mumei katana in shirasaya.  Shinogizukure, iroi mune, chu-kissaki, sakizori.  Hawatare: 2 shaku 3 sun  (69.7 cm or 27.44").  Motohaba: 2.99 cm.  Sakihaba: 1.99 cm.  Kasane: 6.7 mm.   O-gunome in groups of twos and threes, tobiyaki remaining close to the ha.  Ha nie, and sungashi.  Itame nagare with areas of mokume, the ji is packed with jinie.  the boshi is jizo, with a long kaeri.   Mounted in shirasaya with a silver foil habaki.  There is an unfortunate problem that likely occurred when the sword was quenched.  There is a katahagiri (hagiri only on one side of the blade) that appears to be shallow,  22 cm up from the machi, and not in a position that receives a lot of stress when cutting properly, so I suspect that it did not affect the functionality of the blade.  However, it is there, and will not go away.  So if you are collecting for study, or iaido, this should not be an issue.    $1,700
