A long, well mounted, ubu wakizashi signed, Bishu Ju Sadatsugu. Shinogizukure, iroi mune, bohi, chu kissaki. Hawatare: 1 shaku 7 sun 8 bu 5 rin (54.1 cm. / 21.3"). Motohaba: 2.54 cm. Sakihaba: 1.55 cm. Kasane: 5.2 mm. The hamon has a long yakidashi, then becomes gunome midare in groups of three, two smaller, one large; in ko nie, ashi iri, wide soft habuchi, kinsuji, slight sunagashi, nado. The jigane is moist hadatatsu itame & mokume, slight nagare, fine ji nie, utsure, nado. Rated chusaku in Fujishiro's Nihon Toko Jiten - Shinto Hen.
Blue tsuka ito over very good same; shakudo nanako and gold utori fuchi, horn kashira; large crane menuki of shakudo and gold. The iron sukashi tsuba is three cranes, signed Echizen Ju Kinai Saku. Seppa and habaki are gold foil. The saya is black lacquer.
He was a smith of the Sadayuki mon, working around Jokyo (1684 - 1688). He is believed to be the same person as Kawachi no Kami Sadatsugu. This is right out of the wood work, and has never been submitted to shinsa. A couple small stains on the blade, which is otherwise in good polish. $3,500
