Shigetsune Wakizashi

Ubu wakizashi signed Echizen Ju / Tango no Kami Fujiwara Shigetsune. Shinogizukure, iroi mune, chu-kissaki,. Hawatare: 1 shaku 6 sun 9 bu 3 rin, (51.3cm or 20.196"). Motohaba: 3.048 cm. Sakihaba: 2.024 cm. Kasane: 6.17 mm. The hamon is a narrow chusuguba. Because of the condition, I have taken the description of the smith's work from the Toko Taikan. Itame with masame, hadatatsu. Suguba, ko nie deki. All of which would be expected from an Echizen blade.
This is the first generation Kaga Shigetsune, active around Kambun (1663-1673). He was of the Kanetsune mon, living in Kaga before moving to Echizen. He is rated with a double triangle in Nihonto Meikan, valued at 2,500,000 yen in Toko Taikan. He has a sharpness rating of Wazamono.
This is a polishing project, but the blade is scuffed and stained, there is no damage other than someone's attempt to clean it.
There is no tsuba or tsuka. The stippled saya with copper fittings has only a couple of chips. One next to the missing kurikata, and a cut at the koiguchi. $2,000
