Shoami Wheel Tsuba

An early Edo or Momoyama Shoami tsuba. 7.69 cm x 7.63 cm x 3.8 mm. Excellent condition with no losses to the gold nunome or shakudo cart wheels. It is unusual to see the omote and ura almost mirror images, rather than the more commonly seen dominant image on the omote. An interesting feature that likely places the tsuba as earlier, is that the sekigane are gold utori, which is seldom encountered later than early Momoyama. On the sekigane pictured below, the beginning of a slight lifting at the edge can be seen. Unfortunately, the mimi is missing. My guess is that it was also gold foil, and stripped for the gold weight. $475
