Tsugumasa Katana

A gendai katana signed, Kozuke ju Tsugumasa Saku, dated Showa ju hachi nen ni gatsu hi (a day in February, 1943).  This is the example illustrated in Slough's An Oshigata Book of Modern Japanese Swordsmiths 1868-1945.    Ubu, shinogizukure, chu kissaki, toriizori.  Hawatare:2 saku 1 sun 4 bu 5 rin (65 cm /25.59")   Motohaba: 3.2 cm.  Sakihaba:   2.18 cm.   Kasane:  7.62 mm. Florid hamon, hanie, gunome notare midare, choji, ashi, yo, sunagashi, kinsuji, strings of nie within the hamon, nado,   Tight itame hada profuse ko jinie, some small tobiyaki.  In polish.  Rated 1,000,000 yen in Toko Taikan.  Although mounted in shingunto koshirae, the nonmilitary copper habaki testifies to its being intended for civilian use.  A sword for the serious collector. 

He was of the Kasama Shigetsugu mon.  That he studied under masterful Black Dragon smith, Kasama Shigetsugu is evident in the execution of this sword.  $3,500
