A tsuba signed, Yamashiro Kuni Ju / Umetada Shigenari. 6.71 cm x 6.49 cm x 4.1 mm. A classic Umetada tsuba from the latter half of the seventeenth century. Shigenari, who also signed Narishige, worked in Fujishima in Yamashiro province 1650 - 1700. He was a prolific smith, who worked in Kaneiye style. This tsuba is pictured in Robert E. Haynes, Ltd. Catalog 10, October 1984, lot #103. His work is represented in Lundgren collection and the Soul of The Samurai, the Vancouver catalog 1993 page 55, color photograph X.
