A large ubu wakizashi signed, Bishu Osafune Ju Norimitsu, from the collection of one of the original American post war sword collectors. Shinogizukure, iroi mune, extended chukissaki, the sori is a little severe. Hawatare 1 shaku 7 sun 6 bu (53.34 cm / 21") Motohaba: 2.88 cm. Sakihaba 2.16 cm. Kasane: 6.6 mm. The hamon is is nioi deki, gunome midare, hotsure, faded and lacking clarity, nado. The hada is itame, with a glassy surface, there are small inactive rust pits on one side. In my opinion. the signature is gimei, and the blade is saiba.
The tsuka is a blue tsuka ito, over very white same, feather menuki associated with the tea ceremony, shakudo fuchi, horn kashira. The black lacquer saya had been good quality, but neglect and mishandling have left it badly chipped. The mid-Edo tsuba is first rate, and in like new condition.76.7 cm 7.23 cm x 3.7 mm. I was sore tempted to let this fall off and be replaced prior to listing. This is something for the martial artist, or hobbyist, or someone who wants the tsuba.
Note: The stand is not included.
