Wakizashi

A nicely mounted koto wakizashi signed nijimei, Munenaga.    Hawatare: 1 shaku 6 sun 2 bu 7 rin (49.3 cm / 19.41").   Motohaba: 2.64 cm.  Sakihaba:  1.88 cm.  Kasane: 4.7 mm.  Shinogizukure, iroi mune, sakizori, chukissaki, Nioi deki Chu-suguba gunome midare, nijuba, koichigaiba, kinsuji, nado. Tight itame  hada.  The boshi suguba end in komaru, medium kaeri.  This appears to be the work of Bizen from later Muromachi.

The tsuka ito is pale green, over good quality same.  The shakudo nanako fuchi-kashira have images of peacocks and chrysanthemums.  The shakudo flying crane menuki have silver and gold  highlights.  The iron tsuba, is decorated with a a drum, drums sticks, a baton with gilt paper tassel. tachi and scroll on the obverse.  The mimi is gold foil.  The saya is intact,  pine needles and green sparkles with black iron handachi fittings (Note: the one ring slipped of in the top picture, but is here).  The kozuka is a bow and quiver on a basket weave background.  The niju habaki is blue-black shaku and patterned gold foil.
