Higo Koi Tsuba

A large moku Higo tsuba after a Jingo design. Ishime surface with well patented shichu koi and seaweed, rectangular kozuka ana. 8.191 cm x 7.721 cm x 4.8 mm. Thee patina is a bit dull, but will come back to life with a little attention with a horse hair brush.
Michael Cox gave a tentative identification as Tsuboi school work.
Tsuboi is an area in Kumamoto Higo province where a number of metal workers lived during the late Edo period.Tsuba workers were know mainly for making copies of other school works especially Jingo. Some of them were incredibly skilled and worked for the Hosokawa family. $1,000
