Red Copper Hirata
LS022
SOLD
A very interesting and well made Higo copper and shakudo tsuba.
7.123 cm x 6.926 x 3.59 mm
There is clear influence of Hirata in its
abstract surface design, the beautiful hitsu ana shape, the inclusion of an
udenuki ana and the clear punch marks around the nakago ana. These could all
suggest 2nd Hirata master as its maker - however the Shakudo and brass
inlaid centipede alludes to another rarely seen Higo maker Misumi Harunobu.
Perhaps because it is not signed by Misumi this is best described as school
of Misumi- it would certainly make a very interesting tsuba to submit to
Shinsa.
Very little is known of Misumi but he is
known for his use of centipede and catfish designs and for being eccentric.
Thanks to Michael Cox
for the write up.
