Kiyomizu Teabowl.
LST001
A signed, light ceramic tea bowl with bamboo and a plant in colored glaze, and Tokugawa mon in gold lacquer. Good crackle and detail in the mon. The ware on the lacquer mon testify to its use through tie/ Diamter 10.535 cm x 5.633 cm. The Japanese store tag dates the bowl as Edo period.*2 (1800 is the stock number, not a date).
Ko-Kiyomizu refers to the older production phase of Kiyomizu ware, a type of Kyoto pottery, whose history dates back to the Momoyama period (1573 -1600)*, with potters like Ogata Kenzan, Nisei Nonomura, and Mokubei Aoki contributing to its development.
*1 The dates for Momoyama are somewhat fluid, depending on the historian. Whether 1568 - 1600 or 1573 - 1603, or 1615, or some other span, generally agreed that it encompasses the last third to quarter of the 16th century and perhaps into the 17th.
*2 Again, these dates are fluid. Some date Edo starting at Keicho, 1596, others at 1615, etc,
As such, I can not price it as a Momoyama piece. However, there are similar Edo period pieces identified as Ko-Kiyomizu priced at $599.99. Boxed $525
