Sailboat Tsuba
KO 025
SOLD
An early-mid Edo sukashi tsuba of two men in a sailboat. Brass bubbles in the wave and remnants of gold nunome on the sail, clothing, and boat. Very nice iron, with good color. 7.76 cm x 7.69 cm. x 4.2 mm. Purely conjecture on my part, but since one is a boatman, and the other appearing to be samurai, perhaps this references the duel between Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro on April 13, 1612, when Musashi, using a boat oar, defeated the famous swordsman.
