Ko Katchushi Tsuba

An early Muromachi ko Katchushi tsuba from the Lundgren collection.  The octagonal plate is slightly dished, so measuring the height from the center it is 7.7 cm, and 7.73 at the peak. The side measurements are 7.58 cm and 7.63 cm. 3.8 mm at the mimi.  The hitsuana had been altered many years ago from their narrow trapezoidal shape to accommodate the thicker kozuka and kogai of the time.   The tsuba had been owned by a martial artist who added sekigane so it could be mounted on his sword.  Not a terrible things, but certainly not what this piece deserved.
