Sakura Yamakichibei Tsuba

An interesting tsuba from Skip Holbrook's collection. Signed, Bishu (sakura stamp) Yamakichibei in very weak scratchy kanji. This is the third Yamakichibei, known as Sakura Yamakichibei. 8.229 (measuring the igh points to the right of the chuukensettsu), 7.936 x 6.48 mm at the mimi,Well worked iron with a fine controlled mimi, and a simple sukashi at the lower left. I look at this as an abstract form, pleasing to the eye. However, the write up in the Kokusai Tosogu Kai, sees a much more mysterious representation. It has been many years since I indulged in recreational smoke, so I will remain comfortable with an abstract design. However, I have included the Kokusai Tosogu Kai write up below. $1,200
