Saotome Chrysanthemum Tsuba
TS0303
A large Edo period Saotome Chrysanthemum tsuba 8.65 cm x 8.6 cm x 4.2 mm. When making chrysanthemum sukashi tsuba, the Saotome frequently would construct the tsuba in multiple pieces, affixing the design element rather than laboriously cutting the pattern from a single plate. This is such an example. The seppa dai and the web were made separately then welded together. Good plate, as would be expected, and color. The patina is a bit worn on the seppa dai. This is out of the woodwork, and has never been to shinsa. $950
