Tochibata Tsuba

Triple rope rimmed Toshibata tsuba, a small school, completely country in their out look. very black patina. The triple rope rim is a frequent motif. 8.08 cm x 8 x 5.5 mm. Good color and condition. Circa. 1750. Note the impact damage at 4:30 in the right hand picture, likely from a war hammer, and the tsuba survived this impact. Ref. Haynes Catalog 10, #233 & #234. There is an example of Sendai Myochin using this design, Haynes 4, 1178, but the seppadai is completely different. $500
