Tosho Tsuba

A tosho tsuba from the early Edo period with a desirable sukashi motif of kama or Japanese sickles.  The kama symbolize how life of the samurai should be used as a tool to realize Buddhist enlightenment.   The tsuba for shoto, measures 6.9 cm  x 6.5 cm  x 3 mm and has been preserved in a coating of nama-urushi or clear raw lacquer.   This would benrefit from some cleaning of the rust with a fiber glass pencil, about a 45 minute job.  From the collection of Paul Goodman.  Value: 250
