A lovely fuchi-kashira set signed, Yanagawa Naomitsu (Kao). Shakudo and gold takazogan peonies, leaves, and rocks in gold and shakudo on a shakudo nanako ground. Never presented to shinsa. Subsequent to listing this, Robert Haynes saw pictures and declared it absolutely genuine, through not the work of the first man, who is the artist listed in Wakayama.
The shodai Yanagawa Naomitsu 1733 - December 25, 1809. He started life as a silver smith and in 1750 went to study with Yanagawa Naomasa, who later adopted him. He was a retainer to the Soma Daimyo at Nakamura in Iwaki province. Ref. Haynes H 06717.0 Ref.
